Japan Universities Association for Computer Education

Japan Universities Association for Computer Education is a non-profit organization under the auspices of Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture and is dedicated to the advancement of quality higher education through promoting applications of information technology in education. Two thirds of four-year universities and graduate universities and one third of two-year junior colleges in Japan, about 500 private institutions in higher education, are affiliated to this organization.

JUCE is tackling all aspects involved in applications of information technology in higher education, include but not limited to research and development of new applications of information technology to innovate higher education in the fields of humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, construction of educational material database, research on joint development of educational materials, development and promotion of information ethics education, research and experimentation in new IT literacy education, submitting recommendations to the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture to deploy wide-bandwidth networks for research and education, promotion of digitization of educational contents, research on intellectual property of digital educational materials, research on network-based Cyber Consortium of universities, research on information security measures, offering seminars on information technology in teaching for faculty, organization of Presidents' and Deans' meetings for promoting information education, negotiations with government sectors for securing subsidization necessary for implementing information technology in research and education, offering seminars on information systems in university administration.

Plans and goals are set by the steering board, formed by associations of universities, to comply with the overall initiatives of the affiliated institutions and 300 faculty and staff of affiliated institutions are designated to form 30 committees to engage in various activities.

The First Joint Japanese-American International Seminar on Multimedia Applications in Higher Education
