"The ground floor study hall"
About 200 "Information Connectors" have been installed on the ground floor study hall that is a space for independent study and a cafeteria. These connectors are always available for all students because these buildings are open 24 hours a day on a year-round basis.

Information Connectors
There are about 5,000 "Information Connectors" at KIT campus. They can be used to connect the students' laptop computers with the Campus Network and the Internet.

Multi-Media KOBO
High performance personal computers, MIDI keyboard, and nonliner video analyzer are available for students to create Digital Contents such as Computer Graphics, Video, and Homepage design.

Abstract:

The Multi-media Campus has been established by Kanazawa Institute of Technology (hereaftergKIT")

All buildings on the KIT campus are covered by four different kinds of cable, such as 100Mbps (Fast Ethernet), 155Mbps (ATM), 622Mbps (ATM), and 1Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet of optical fiber). On the KIT campus a local area network of more than 10 kilometers connects with thousands of intensively used workstations and personal computers. About 8,000 students also have their own laptop computers, which they can connect to one of about 5,000 ports set up around campus to access the Internet and the Campus Network. Since April 2001, KIT has utilized the ports (connected to the optical fiber) in 3,500 rooms at about 200 apartment complexes around the campus.
@@Using these ports, students can refer to their Library Center resource catalogs, course syllabi and information on lectures, jobs, and teaching materials based on multi-media technology, as well as access the Internet. The Library Center at KIT maintains a video library of almost 14,000 titles. These videos can be selected remotely from classrooms and elsewhere on campus, and they can be played back on large classroom projectors or on laptops connected to the campus LAN.
