Abstract:

Total Multimedia System of Education in Meiji Pharmaceutical University

We have the departments of pharmaceutical chemistry, bio-pharmacy and pharmaceutical science in the faculty of pharmacy and the major courses of pharmaceutical science and clinical pharmacy in the pharmaceutical research courses of graduate school. There had been two campuses in Setagaya ward and Tanashi city and they were merged and moved to Kiyose city in August of 1998. At that time, we constructed a network infrastructure to meet the demand of the information society. The Local Area Network (LAN) of our campus was consolidated to promote effective education by using multimedia method as well as to contribute toward the society by sending pharmaceutical information to the world. Our LAN was named MYEDEN (Meiji Yakka daigaku (Japanese name of Meiji Pharmaceutical University) Educational Environmental Network) which shows the purposes of the construction. MYEDEN is composed by the network infrastructure based on 155 Mbps ATM switch, the CALL system, the multimedia presentation system, the multipurpose terminal computers for the students and the data-base navigation system for pharmaceutical education and research. In June of 1998 the education and research center for information processing was organized to maintain the LAN, to give the staffs assistance about information technology and to research and develop multimedia education.
